There are mainly the following types of automotive shock absorbers:
1. By material:
a. Hydraulic shock absorbers: Hydraulic shock absorbers are the most common type. They use fluid to absorb and dissipate vibrations and impacts during driving, providing a smoother ride.
b. Pneumatic shock absorbers: Pneumatic shock absorbers use gas to absorb shock, providing better damping and suitable for some special vehicles.
c. Variable damping shock absorbers: Variable damping shock absorbers automatically adjust the damping force based on road conditions and driving requirements to adapt to different driving environments.
2. By structure:
a. Monotube shock absorbers: Monotube shock absorbers have a simple structure and are relatively low cost, but their performance is relatively weak.
b. Twin-tube shock absorbers: Twin-tube shock absorbers consist of two shock absorber cylinders and offer better shock absorption and stability.
The function of automotive shock absorbers is to suppress the vibration caused by the spring rebound after absorbing shock, as well as impact from the road, to improve the smoothness of the vehicle's ride. Shock absorbers are one of the most vulnerable parts in a car. Their working condition directly affects the smoothness of the car's ride and the lifespan of other components. Therefore, choosing the right shock absorber type is crucial to improving the car's driving comfort and safety.
